DREAM

VIEW THE LATEST TIMETABLE HERE

Crafted by the DEM Academic Committee, DREAM sessions take place biweekly on a Thursday. They are comprised of in-depth interactive teaching on pertinent Emergency Medicine topics and follow a theme each month.

These compulsory sessions are full day (08:00- 16:00) or half day (12:00-16:00) and may be online or on site (VTBA).

Each registrar is allocated at least 2 DREAM presentations annually under the supervision of our host of consultants.

The registrars presenting are expected to be prepared and well read on their topic and prepared to answer further questions.

AFTER HOURS TEACHING

Our accomplished consultants take on the task of giving weekly online teaching between 18:00 and 19:00 on Wednesdays. These sessions take the form of JAR sessions, VAQs, Clinical case discussions, Ultrasound session and more... JAR sessions take place on the first Tuesday of the month between 18:00 and 19:00 and SIM sessions on the third Thursday  of the month from 17:00 to 18:00 at the WITS SIM lab.

YELLOW BOOK

You will need to get your yellow book when you begin your reg time from Zama or Ishmael.
The yellow book outlines tutorial topics that need to be covered over your four years of training.
You can complete it for formal or informal tutorials or lectures while in the Emergency Departments and outside rotations.

SIM SESSIONS

On the third Thursday of each month (from 17:00-18:00), we are afforded the opportunity to practice our simulation skills at the state-of-the-art WITS skills lab. It is a great way to practice your patient management and team leading  capabilities in a room of your peers with the guidance of one of our knowledgeable consultants.
Remember to indicate your availability a week in advance.
